Thanksgiving is right around the corner, yet many people will go without a Thanksgiving feast this year. With unemployment rates sky high and many people unable to afford a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, Charlotte Rescue Mission is making preparations to provide a holiday meal to hundreds of Queen City residents—but they cannot cook the meal if they do not have food.

Currently, Charlotte Rescue Mission needs 100 turkeys to feed its projected number of Thanksgiving day patrons. To date, no turkeys have been donated. The holiday is quickly approaching, and without these turkeys many people will miss out on the joy of eating a wonderful, traditional meal on Thanksgiving.

For this reason, Charlotte Rescue Mission is calling upon community members to donate a turkey this holiday. The spirit of the holidays revolves around charity and generosity, and contributing to a wonderful Thanksgiving for others is a great way to kick off the holiday season. Charlotte Rescue Mission is a community organization that has been serving the Queen City for over 70 years. By providing living space for homeless, unemployed, and alcohol and drug addicted individuals, this organization has been an integral part of helping those in need within the Charlotte community. The Mission's program has been highly successful and is often recommended by substance abuse programs, church leaders, probation officers, detoxification centers, and friends and family of individuals in need. Program participants are accepted when they signify that they are committed to their recovery and ready to turn their lives around.

Starting over is difficult for anyone, but being able to regain control of one's life after becoming addicted to alcohol or drugs is a sign of strength and an accomplishment that speaks highly of one's character. The process of becoming sober is difficult, but being able to celebrate the holidays in a safe location is a milestone in many of the Mission's participants' lives.

By making a donation of a turkey or other food items to Charlotte Rescue Mission, the members of the Queen City community can show their support for their neighbors and contribute to a wonderful holiday for others. The Mission would love to have all donations by Monday so that it can properly prepare for the holiday.

Donations can be dropped off at any time, seven days per week. Charlotte Rescue Mission is located at 701 West 1st Street, Charlotte, NC 28233. The main office can be reached at 704-334-4635.
