Myers Park is one of Charlotte NC’s oldest neighborhoods. Featuring the fine homes and tree-lined streets reminiscent of the historic Dilworth district, which also happens to be located nearby, this area is a very attractive residential area. Myers Park is considered an affluent neighborhood and is home to some of the best schools in the Queen City, including Queen’s University of Charlotte and Myers Park High School. This area is likely not as frequented by travelers as other, more vacation-oriented spots in Charlotte, NC but is definitely known by many Queen City natives as "home."

Where is Myers Park, and how do you get there? It is the area bounded by Queens Road to the north, Sharon Road to the south, Providence Road to the east, and Colony Road, East Woodlawn Road and South Kings Drive on the West. . It is bordered by several other well-known areas of Charlotte, including Dilworth, which lies to the west, the Elizabeth district to the east, and South Park to the south. To the north lies Cherry Community – a lesser-known area, and a historically African-American community.

When driving through Myers Park, be careful not to get lost! This neighborhood is home to one of the most confusing intersections in Charlotte. In fact, this intersection, known as the Queens Road/Queens Road intersection sits in the very heart of Myers Park. There are plenty of spaces near this intersection where you can park your car and enjoy a tour of the quiet neighborhood on foot. In addition to being a wealthy residential area, Myers Park is home to many historic attractions.

As mentioned before, Queens University of Charlotte is located in the Myers Park district. This university is a co-educational, private institution offering 34 undergraduate majors and 66 concentrations, along with 10 graduate programs. Its recent shift in status from Queen’s College to Queen’s University suggests that those numbers are bound to grow.

In addition to housing some influential educational institutions, Myers Park is also home to the Duke Mansion, where James Buchanan Duke and his family spent several months of each year between 1919 and 1925. The Duke Mansion is one of four family houses. This particular house gave Duke the space to oversee his successful utility business, which later became Duke Energy – The Queen City’s current electrical company.

It may sound like Myers Park is more of an ideal place for adults, but this neighborhood has something to offer children as well. Edgehill Park is the centerpiece of Myers Park – a green space in the middle of a neighborhood full of houses that not only reinforces the street pattern; it also features a playground for kids.

Perhaps most interesting is that this neighborhood’s influence extends beyond the city. Home to many of the textile, banking and utility leaders credited with developing the Piedmont region of the Carolinas into a major American manufacturing area in the early 20th century, its significance is statewide.
