The plans for Carowinds were unveiled in October of 1969, when E. Pat Hall announced his intention to build the 73-acre theme park in the Queen City. The original vision for the attraction was one that incorporated cutting-edge rides and an exciting landscaping, creating a world that was quite outside of that in which most people lived. Opened on March 31 of 1973, Carowinds is to this day providing memorable experiences to families that take the time to enjoy the magic that the park creates.

Deemed the "Thrill Capital of the Southeast," Carowinds offers a variety of rides that will pique the interest of all visitors, including roller coasters, thrill rides, children’s rides, family rides, water rides, and even the Boomerang Bay Waterpark, which offers a unique experience to individuals that are looking to cool down on those hot summer days that the South is famous for!

If a rush of adrenaline isn’t your thing, Carowinds also offers tamer attractions that are just as exciting, such as live shows and shopping. The shows at the theme park represent a variety of theatrical and musical talent and have captivated audiences since the park first opened its doors. Between curtains, take a stroll through the shops to purchase your favorites park and character souvenirs, which will serve as a lifelong reminder of your fun-filled getaway! All of this walking, shopping, and riding is sure to work up an appetite, so take the time to sit down and savor the wonderful food prepared by Carowinds’ culinary staff!
